DIY sidewalk chalk paint

DIY sidewalk chalk paint

Hi everyone! My name is Colby from Love Joy Glitter and today I am going to show you how to make your own Liquid Sidewalk Chalk Paint in a jar!

With this chalk paint, it’s super simple to create beautiful designs without the huge mess! You paint with a sponge brush so there is no chalk on clothing to clean, which is a win-win for everyone!

Let’s get started!

{Full Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links which help keep my blog running so I can buy more craft supplies ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for helping my crafting! Note from Gina: the affiliate money is to help Colby ๐Ÿ™‚ }

You will need:

Half Pint Mason Jars

Water

Sidewalk Chalk

Rubber Mallet or Car

Another Bowl of Water

Sponge Brushes

First, you are going to take your chalk and put it into a baggie so you can crush it. I used 2 pieces of chalk per jar so it was really vibrant! You can hit it with your Rubber Mallet, but I just ran over it with a car.

It might take a couple times, but it crushes it to a powder. (If there are still some chunks left after you are done running over it, that is okay)

It will look like something like this: PS- the tires will make tiny holes in the baggies, so be careful when you pick them up!

Now that it is crushed and there aren’t much big pieces, you are going to pour it into the mason jars. It should fill 1/3 to 1/2 of the jar.

*I actually crushed this one a little bit more after realizing that they were a little too big*

Now, fill the jar all the way to the top with water and shake!!

I suggest listening to Taylor Swift as you do this.

YAY! It’s looking great!

The last step is to have fun painting with new liquid sidewalk chalk paint!!

Remember to bring a bowl of water out with you so you can rinse your brush(es)!

I use the sponges in the picture above to paint – No mess and they are easy to clean and re-use!

Here is a good example of how the paint will dry. When you first start painting it will have a clear-ish color to it. After it finishes drying, it will look like regular chalk!

Aren’t these colors awesome?!

This is brilliant, Colby! I homeschool a 3 year old and sidewalk chalk does nothing for him. Not interested at all. But paint? He loves it! And you have given us the best of both worlds!! Thanks so much and good luck to you! Dona
