TAMPA, Fla., October 14, 2021 – The University of South Florida Cross Country team heads back to Tallahassee to participate in the FSU Pre Nationals.
In their last competition at the HOKA FLRunners.com Invitational, USF placed first after strong performances from both sides. For the men, Ben Kailes (Jacksonville, Fla.), Nickolas Kamen (Naples, Fla.), Sebastian Edwards (Celebration, Fla.), and Joshua Webb (Stafford, Va.) all posted times to secure their slot within the top five. On the women’s side, Andie Gonzalez (Naples, Fla.) and Hannah Offenback (Monticello, Ill.) placed second and third, respectively.
This Friday’s race at Apalachee Regional Park poses another opportunity for USF to prepare for the NCAA Championships. The Bulls raced the course earlier this season where they contended against nationally-ranked teams. Friday’s competition suggests a similar challenge as the Bulls will compete against top 25 opponents such men’s No. 1 Northern Arizona and No. 2 Notre Dame and Alabama’s No. 4 women’s team. Other teams of the same caliber include hosts’ Florida State, North Carolina, Georgetown and Notre Dame.
“This trip to Tallahassee will provide us with an opportunity to compete against the nation’s best programs” head coach Erik Jenkins said. “The Pre-National meet attracts quality competition from all over the country to have a final meet before most conference championships.”
The men’s 8K will commence at 9:10 a.m., and the women’s 6K will follow suit at 9:45 a.m.
