USF TRACK AND FIELD ANNOUNCES 2021 SIGNING CLASS

TAMPA, Fla., August 31, 2021 – University of South Florida track and field head coach Erik Jenkins announced the Bulls’ 2021 signing class consisting of 26 student-athletes. The class features junior college national champions, conference champions and multiple state champions. Of the new additions, 14 are native Floridians, seven come from outside of the sunshine state and five from other countries.

“I am excited that we have been able to attract quality student athletes enthusiastic about pursuing their academic and athletic ambitions here at the University of South Florida.” Jenkins said. “The staff has done a highly commendable job of bringing together a class that blends experienced youth from the high school level and notable collegiate transfers that can positively impact a program that had some success last year. These athletes come from all over the world and I look forward to our growth as a program here at USF!”

MEN
Romaine Beckford – Portland, Jamaica / South Plains CC
Top Marks: High Jump 2.20m (7’2.5”), Javelin Throw 55.93m (183’6”)
“Romaine finished an outstanding career by winning the NJCAA National Indoor High Jump Championships and finishing second at the outdoor meet. Romaine is also an accomplished javelin thrower and will be shooting for the school record in that event. We are thrilled to have Romaine as a USF Bull and we know he has the ability to be a future Conference Champion and a NCAA All-American. – assistant coach Don Marsh

“Kendell was a two-sport athlete and achieved his goal of winning the High Jump title at the 4A State Championship. Kendell comes from an excellent high school program which emphasizes success in academics and athletics. “Riley transferred from the University of Arkansas after an outstanding high school career at Greenville Ohio. She set the Ohio state record of a 13-7 pole vault jump on her way to the State Championship. Riley has the potential to be a conference champion and a NCAA Qualifier. Audrey Wuerffel – Jacksonville, Fla. / The Bolles School
Top Marks: Pole Vault 3.89m (12’9)
“Audrey achieved the goal of jumping 12-9 for the best jump in Florida last spring. Her performance in the 2A State Meet won her a spot on the top rung of the victory stand. Audrey is known as a tough competitor which is ideal when you vault at the Division 1 level.” – assistant coach Don Marsh

About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O’Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF’s first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 – O’Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
